Growth Decree Extension Looms: January Market Saved

The January transfer window for Serie A clubs has been saved for the time being as the government has granted a mini extension to the Growth Decree.

Andrea Abodi, the Minister for Sport had asked for an extension at least until July, partly in an attempt to “save” the summer transfer window. The delay until the end of February will allow clubs to take advantage of the Growth Decree for the January transfer market. It’s easy to imagine a scramble for precious assets.

The mini extension also brings another positive aspect. Serie A clubs are hopeful that within these two months, there will be time and opportunities for action on Parliament to garner an amendment that will wholly do away with the abolition or lead to a moratorium that pushes back the entire affair significantly (a five-year delay was suggested). In summary, the Serie A association, clubs and Federcalcio have worked hard to gain something from the government, and they have partially achieved this, according to ‘La Gazzetta dello Sport’.
