Guidolin: Hoping for a different outcome for Bologna in Champions than 20 years ago

Former Bologna manager, Francesco Guidolin, commented on the current situation at the club under the stewardship of Motta in an interview with Corriere di Bologna.

Guidolin stated that Bologna is experiencing a “magical” period marked by good play, attributing it to the leadership of Motta. He praised Motta, who, he said, was not only a great footballer but also a skillful and intelligent coach. Guidolin affirmed that while past playing experience doesn’t always translate to success on the touchline, in many cases it counts significantly.

As for where the team stands at the moment, Guidolin noted that it’s too soon to label it a major club, but he credited its solid build-up. Discussing its standing, he noted the challenge of claiming a top-four finish, with tough competition from numerous top-notch teams.

Nevertheless, Guidolin sees a shift in dynamics between the fifth and seventh places. He believes there’s potential for Bologna to immediately follow the big clubs. He expressed his hope that the club will reach the Champions League, and end differently from his own stint at Bologna two decades ago, in which his tenure ended without such an achievement. His remarks were as quoted in the interview with Corriere di Bologna.
