Davide Nicola has officially been appointed as the new coach for Empoli, the Tuscan football club has confirmed.
In a public statement, Empoli Football Club said, “We are delighted to confirm that the technical management of the first team has been entrusted to Davide Nicola. He has signed a year-long contract with the option for an additional season, and will be directing his first training session tomorrow afternoon at 15.00”.
Nicola’s staff team was also announced: “Following Mr Nicola, there will also be new faces joining the tea. Simone Barone will be deputy coach, Manuel Cacicia will join as a technical collaborator, Gabriele Stoppino is our fitness trainer, and Federico Barni will be a match analyst”.
Born in Luserna San Giovanni on the 5th of March, 1973, Davide Nicola has an extensive career in football. Having played more than 400 games in Serie B, Nicola mainly represented Genoa and Ternana, with periods at Torino and Spezia as well. He made his Serie A debut with Siena in 2004.
After making over 500 professional appearances, the defender’s coaching career began in 2010 with Lumezzane in Serie C. The club statement added, “Two years later, he moved to Livorno and helped them earn promotion to Serie A. In November of the following season, Nicola managed Bari before joining Crotone in Serie A in the summer of 2016, where he achieved a survival finish. He then managed Udinese, Genoa and Torino, always ensuring survival in Serie A. In February 2022, Nicola took over Salernitana and achieved the same objective thanks to 18 points secured in 15 games.”
