Torino, under manager Paolo Vanoli, anticipated a different result from yesterday afternoon’s match against Monza.
The manager himself had identified the three points as the only acceptable outcome for the 13th round of Serie A during the pre-match conference.
Instead, the team from Piedmont didn’t go beyond a 1-1 draw against the visitors, delivering a performance that was only intermittently satisfactory, notably at home against the second-to-last in the standings.
This draw, devoid of satisfaction, cast a somber shadow over the November Sunday in Torino, a day marked by the intense protest orchestrated by the Curva Maratona, both before and during the game, aimed at the club’s president, Urbano Cairo.
In stark contrast to the fans’ grievances against the Alessandria-born entrepreneur, continuous applause and expressions of admiration were directed towards Vanoli by the same supporters.
A noteworthy incident during the protest saw a tide of ultras, starting from Piazzale Grande Torino, reaching Corso Agnelli.
A fan with a megaphone praised the former Inter and Venezia player, declaring, “Vanoli is not to blame,” with a rallying cry of, “He must stay with us!”
CalcioNews24, present at the scene, reported that these statements were followed by chants dedicated to the Varese-born manager by around 4,000 attendees.
The message is clear.
Despite circulating rumours of Vanoli’s potential dismissal, the Torino faithful have firmly made their stance known.
After the match, the 49-year-old manager expressed his gratitude to the supporters for their warm reception and shifted focus towards the upcoming game against Napoli on the 1st of December.
He was accompanied by seasoned agent and friend Andrea D’Amico, who was present at the stadium to lend support to his client.
