Frosinone-Juve 1-2: Yildiz and Vlahovic are Allegri’s Christmas gift

In an adrenaline-filled 17th round match of the 2023/2024 Serie A season, Juventus departed Frosinone with a significant victory. After drawing with Genoa, Juve found their winning rhythm again securing a 2-1 lead at Benito Stirpe. Rodrigo Bentancur, widely known as Baez, answered franticly to Yildiz’s fantastic debut goal in Serie A. Subsequently, Dusan Vlahovic’s stunning header granted Massimiliano Allegri and his team the worth-cherishing three points.

Early in the match, Juve took advantage of spaces, trying to carve out opportunities. In the 6th minute, a quick pass to McKennie brought danger; his low cross for Milik was swept away quite ingeniously by Frosinone’s robust defense lead by Romagnoli. However, regardless of the ceaseless early threats, the first goal was slotted in by Yildiz of Juve. A blunder by Turati in the 12th minute granted Kostic the ball, who then created an opening for Yildiz. The Turkish international kept his cool amidst three defenders, smashing a right-footed shot onto the post, marking his first goal in Serie A.

Frosinone stayed resilient with Barrenechea just missing the crossbar with a well-placed shot in the 21st minute. But it was the 51st minute that turned things upside down for the home team. Juve’s Baez capitalized on a loose marking by Kostic and Gatti. Strutting in front of Szczesny, he tucked the ball neatly into the corner marking the equalizer and stirring the match into a nail-biter.

Arguably, the pivotal moment arrived in the 81st minute when Vlahovic found the back of the net. Supplied by a magnificent cross from McKennie, heavily assisted by Weah, Vlahovic rose highest to head the ball into the corner over Romagnoli. Frosinone’s left desperate for a retort.

In what looked like a sure brace for Vlahovic in the 89th minute, VAR intervened to mark him offside, spoiling his celebration. Nevertheless, the final whistle heralded a 2-1 triumph for Juventus away from home, consolidating their position in Serie A.

Vlahovic was widely regarded as the man of the match due to his decisive performance. However, it wasn’t an easy victory for Allegri and his team as they had to confront a robust Frosinone side that gave their all on the field. Despite the initial setback, Juventus displayed their offensive prowess to secure the three points. Both the winning and losing team are now set to recalibrate strategies going into their next Serie A match-ups.
