Empoli: Caprile transitions from hell to heaven, now celebrated as a hero

Elia Caprile, the Empoli goalkeeper, is experiencing a rollercoaster season – his first in the Serie A league.

The lows came on the first day, when an evident blunder by Caprile resulted in Empoli’s defeat to Verona. Last week, Empoli also lost to Lazio, although the loss remained at 2-0 thanks to Caprile’s saves.

Caprile had a similarly fluctuating match in Cagliari. One minute he was on defendant’s bench for Viola’s goal off a penalty, the next he was vindicated by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) which deemed Pavoletti’s push on Caprile instrumental to the goal. Further in the game, Caprile made a crucial penalty save against Viola, aiding Empoli to secure a valuable point.
