Collovati reportedly expresses disbelief over Milan’s decision to let Kalulu join Juve, seeing it as a mistake given his return to 2022 form.

In an exclusive interview with MilanNews24, former defender Fulvio Collovati shared his thoughts on Pierre Kalulu’s transfer from AC Milan to Juventus, and much more.

Commenting on Kalulu’s departure, Collovati said, “I do not understand how Milan managed to let go of Kalulu so easily after last year’s defensive problems. At Juventus, he’s back to the form he showed during the 2022 title-winning season, so the directors must admit they’ve made a mistake.”

He also pointed out the impact of other squad issues, stating, “The injury to Bennacer has shortened the midfield. With Milan competing in four competitions, unlike Napoli with just one, they needed reinforcements in both defence and midfield.”

Collovati assessed the Serie A title race, commenting, “There are two favourites for the title: Inter, because they’re the current holders, and Napoli, because they are focusing on just one competition, have a very deep squad, and have Conte at the helm. However, it doesn’t necessarily mean the favourites will win, because our league is unpredictable.”

He used recent surprising results as examples, noting, “It happens that Atalanta loses at home to Como, or Inter draws with Monza. It’s so thrilling that anything can happen. Clearly, the favourites are those I’ve mentioned.”

Collovati also mentioned Lazio’s potential, saying, “Lazio could cause some surprises in the cup competitions; they’re a good team, and I think for them, winning the league would mean qualifying for the Champions League.”

When discussing the national team, Collovati was optimistic about recent improvements. “There are improvements because the team is aware that the European Championship was a failure, along with previous ones like missing the World Cup. Not qualifying again would be a disaster for our football.”

Praising the coach’s strategy, he stated, “Spalletti is right to focus on young talents like Pisilli, players who could form the future of the national team. Would my national team be needed? That’s another story,” he added with a laugh.
