There is growing speculation in France that Karim Benzema could be returning to Lyon, according to reports in French sports newspapers.
The footballer has reportedly expressed his discontent about his move to Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ittihad, where he garners a wage of £200 million per season.
The former Ballon d’Or winner returned to Saudi Arabia 17 days later than intended. His delayed comeback, albeit justified by team management, irritated his team in Jeddah and for this reason, early departure rumours have started to surface.
Lyon is reportedly working behind the scenes, leveraging strong ties between the club’s owner, the Eagle Group, and Saudi Arabia. If the complicated negotiation is successful, it will be the second major farewell to Saudi football following Jordan Henderson’s exit.
He left Saudi Arabia only six months into his contract and after negotiation with Juventus, he signed with Ajax. The rumours surrounding Lyon’s interest in Benzema were first reported by RMC Sport.
