After Udinese’s defeat at home against Lazio, the head coach Gabriele Cioffi expressed his sentiments.
Speaking in a post-match interview with DAZN, Cioffi shared his thoughts on the match. He commended his players, acknowledging that the loss was hard to swallow considering the chances they had missed.
Cioffi said, “I must give credit to the boys, this defeat is bitter because of the opportunities we missed but we will move on with more conviction than before.”
He spared a thought for the conceded goals, attributing the first goal to individual error, but stated that such mistakes are expected when young players are fielded.
“I regret the goals we conceded. The first was an individual error, but it is normal to concede something when you let the young players play. It’s a shame, I liked the initial attitude, the aggression and the mentality. We stayed in the game, we lost shape a bit too much but from the bench, I did not anticipate Lazio’s goal,” Cioffi added.
Further, the Udinese head coach pointed out that his side were more decisive in the second half. He explained that the substitution of Masina was due to a lack of game time and he decided not to waste a substitution spot.
“Yes, we were more incisive. The change of Masina is because he comes from inactivity, I had to make the substitution and I decided not to waste a slot. The enthusiasm faded a bit after the error, a bit of space opened up and we lost one of our best characteristics like verticality,” he said.
When asked about Samardzic being benched, Cioffi denied any transfer-related reasons. “It had nothing to do with the market, it was solely my choice,” he clarified.
