The transfer news site suggests Torino’s incomplete squad is drifting, calling for Cairo to support Vanoli.

The silence of Urbano Cairo and Davide Vagnati, albeit entirely legitimate, following the Derby della Mole, has made waves of its own. It was even more pronounced than the chants of the Juventus supporters, who, equally legitimately, poked fun at the Torino club as yet another favourable result for the Bianconeri unfolded on that Saturday night.

Those hoping for a bold, televised stance from the top brass of Torino in light of the dire sporting circumstances facing the team have, for now, found themselves disappointed.

Could it be that Torino has chosen the ‘Benedictine’ path of silence and toil over grand proclamations? It seems likely. Paolo Vanoli, speaking at a press conference at the Allianz, expressed optimism that the club will provide support in the upcoming winter transfer market.

It is clear to all that Torino needs to make moves in the transfer market. In January, Cairo will need to at least partially satisfy his manager. Where and how? It’s too early to tell, but it’s likely the team will be in search of a striker to desperately ‘replace’ the injured Zapata.

However, we cannot rule out that the ambitions of Via Viotti may extend to the defence, a department that has appeared inadequate and flawed, both individually and collectively, since the start of the season. Meanwhile, they will be hoping for encouraging updates from the long-term absentee Schuurs.

As the high-profile summer departures of Buongiorno and Bellanova – now at Napoli and Atalanta respectively – contend for the top of the league, Torino finds itself needing to focus on the transfer market.

As anticipated, Cairo will have to heed the advice of Mr Vanoli, who must first bring out the best in the squad at his disposal. In the fifty days leading up to the start of 2025, the team needs to find their game, solidity, and ideally, points, before considering new acquisitions.

Two months, an international break, and five of their next eight matches to be played at home should certainly be beneficial. The freefall needs to be halted.
