Javier Tebas, the President of La Liga, in a recent interview with Corriere della Sera, discussed the highly controversial Super League proposal and the football industry’s refusal of the new format proposed by Reichart.
Tebas was quoted saying, “I am absolutely convinced that we will never see a closed or semi-closed format like the Super League. For a simple but fundamental reason: nobody wants it, not even the clubs that signed up for the Super League in 2021.” He went onto highlight that the rejection faced by Florentino Perez, the President of Real Madrid and a prominent figure in the Super League proposal, was historic. According to Tebas, this refusal projected Perez as a solitary figure in this project.
The President of La Liga further underlined this day as a demonstration of the football ecosystem’s rejection of closed formats such as the Super League.
