In a few weeks, the Italian Supercup or ‘Supercoppa Italiana’ will be taking on a new format in Saudi Arabia.
Inter, Napoli, Fiorentina, and Lazio will compete for the trophy under new rules announced ahead of the matches. The new rule is that in the event of a tie after 90 minutes, the match will be settled by a penalty shootout.
Under this new format, any suspension received during the previous Serie A matches will be applied in the following league rounds. The same goes for players who have been warned in the semi-finals. However, any player who is sent off in the semi-finals will miss out on the final.
It’s been made clear that any player who receives a red card in Saudi Arabia, or a yellow card if already under a warning in the final, will be required to sit out in the league, though not in the following Supercup.
These regulations are set to bring a fresh dynamic to the renowned competition, with each participating team likely to adjust their strategies accordingly.
