Udinese have officially announced the signing of French defender Oumar Solet. The player has agreed to a two-year contract with the Friulian club.
Solet, who recently terminated his contract with Red Bull Salzburg, will join Manager Runjaic’s squad in January. The following is an excerpt from the official statement.
“The Bianconeri defence is set to strengthen ahead of the January transfer window,” reads the statement from Udinese Calcio. “We are delighted to announce that Oumar Solet will join the club until 30 June 2027.
“The central defender, born in the year 2000, is not only physically imposing but also agile and technically proficient. He spent the last four seasons with Salzburg, where he played a pivotal role, even in the UEFA Champions League.
“Solet was born on 7 February 2000 in Melun, France, and began his football journey with Levallois before being scouted by Lyon at the age of 17, joining their youth sector. He made his Ligue 1 debut with Olympique Lyonnais in the 2018/19 season, remaining a mainstay in the squad for the following season as well.
“In the summer of 2020, Solet transferred to Salzburg. During his time in Austria, he proved to be one of the most talented centre-backs in Europe, quickly becoming a cornerstone of the team. Over four years, he made 106 total appearances and scored four goals. Notably, 14 of those appearances came in the Champions League, and four were in the Europa League.
“Solet has also represented France at various youth international levels, amassing four caps with the U17s, four with the U18s, twelve with the U19s (scoring one goal), and two with the U20s. From January, he will be ready to defend the Bianconeri colours.”
This transfer marks a significant addition to Udinese’s squad as they prepare for the second half of the season.
