Six-month-old Serie A entrants Salernitana are making serious efforts with their Director of Football, Walter Sabatini, to strengthen the team at the disposal of manager Filippo Inzaghi, after the recent signing of Toma Bašić and Patrick Zanoli.
In their latest efforts, the club has exhibited strong interest in the experienced Jerome Boateng, the former Bayern Munich defender.
“Concrete and direct contacts have been established for Boateng,” said Di Marzio, reporting the news on Sky Sport. “Their confidence is growing hour by hour.”
According to Di Marzio, an important breakthrough in the transfer negotiations could potentially become apparent tomorrow.
Additionally, Di Marzio suggested that Boateng might have also spoken with Franck Ribéry. The former Bayern Munich colleague himself had a stint at Salerno. It is speculated for Ribéry to have imparted his experiences of playing for Salernitana to his ex-teammate.
Whether Boateng will join Basic, Zanoli, and potentially other new arrivals in their quest to help Salernitana retain their Serie A status remains to be seen.
