Football fans witnessed a splendid showdown as Verona and Salernitana faced off on the 18th matchday of the Serie A 2023/2024 championship at Bentegodi.
Verona and Salernitana went head-to-head in an intense match. Unfortunately, Pirola of Salernitana faced injuries as early as 5 minutes into the game which led to Gyomber taking his place on the field.
Veneti’s attacks in the first 8 minutes showed promise but ultimately Mazzocchi’s attempt from the 20 metre mark ended at the bottom. Tchaouna attempted a header at the 18th minute but the ball went high above the crossbar.
There was considerable control from the Salernitana side in the 31st minute, while the Veneti countered. The first half eventually closed with a scoreline of 0-0.
Into the second half of the game, Tchaouna broke the deadlock with a perfectly placed shot, scoring his first goal in Serie A at the 48th minute. Djuric attempted to increase the lead with a volley, followed by a cross into the area but Ngonge’s shot fell just inches away from the post in the 64th minute.
Pressure from Verona rose in 73rd minute seeking balance. The match extended into 5 minutes of extra time but closed with a 1-0 victory for Salernitana, marking an impressive away game win.
Tchaouna was hailed as the best on the field, scoring the only game’s goal at 48 minutes.
Verona’s line-up was in a 4-2-3-1 formation, led by Marco Baroni. It included Montipò, Tchatchoua, Hien, Dawidowicz, Doig, Hongla, Folorunsho, Suslov, Lazovic, Ngonge, Djuric and several others on the bench.
