Salernitana hosted Juventus for the 19th matchday of the Serie A TIM 2023/2024. In an evenly contested match, Juventus claimed a 2-1 victory.
The first half saw a dynamic start from Juventus. Their control over the game was noticeable early on, with an impressive showing from Yldiz. However, Salernitana managed to create a scoring opportunity through Sambia and tested the reflexes of Juventus goalkeeper Szczesny. The Salernitana defence also held firm against Juventus’ dominance in the aerial game, with Costil admirably deflecting two threatening shots from Danilo and McKennie.
Against the run of play, Salernitana took the lead in the 39th minute, with a goal from Maggiore. Sambia had been shoddily marked by Kostic, and Tcahouna’s pass found Maggiore in a good position. He didn’t hesitate and drove the ball into the net with powerful determination.
The second half saw Juventus upping their pace and seeking an equalizer. McKennie’s attempt off a Rabiot cross barely missed the mark.
However, the match took a turn at the 52-minute mark with Maggiore’s sending off. Taking advantage of the numerical superiority, Juventus levelled the score, courtesy of Iling Junior. He slotted home what initially appeared to be a misplaced deflection by Vlahovic. Even with a player less, Salernitana didn’t surrender easily as Bradaric and Simy came close to retaking the lead.
As the game’s intensity took its toll, Juventus found their winning goal. A cross from Danilo was met by Vlahovic who expertly guided a header passed the goalkeeper to secure a 2-1 win for the visitors.
Salernitana’s line-up was in a 3-4-2-1 formation, spearheaded by coach Inzaghi. On the other hand, Juventus presented in a 3-5-2 formation under the tactical command of Allegri.
