Arrigo Sacchi, the former manager of AC Milan and the Italian national team, discussed AC Milan’s transfer market activity in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport.
Sacchi expressed his concern with AC Milan’s summer transfer strategy, highlighting the emphasis on foreign players, who, according to him, did not have brilliant previous experiences and furthermore, had to adapt to Italian football.
In his interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Sacchi said, “The original sin, in my opinion, is in the summer transfer market. Only foreign players, who were not coming from brilliant experiences and, moreover, had to get used to Italian football, were bought”.
He stressed the challenges foreign players face in the Serie A, using the phrase, “Do we understand that it’s complicated for a young guy coming from abroad to tune into our wavelength?” He insisted that it’s not easy even for great champions to adjust to the rhythm of Italian football.
Sacchi cautioned that when building a new team primarily based on foreign players, patience is vital. However, he conceded, patience in football is a rarely found commodity. The former manager seems to encourage AC Milan to rethink their approach and consider players with better track records and familiarity with Italian football in future recruitment.
