Fabio Quagliarella, the former Sampdoria striker, has confirmed his retirement from football following the Italian team’s relegation this past summer. The announcement was made in an interview with the Italian publication Secolo XIX.
“I didn’t expect it but then you understand and accept it,” said Quagliarella. The forward conveyed that the decision was partly made because the club is now focussing on promoting youth talent.
The veteran Italian footballer also discussed his future plans in the interview. “I’m now trying my hand at commentary with Sky, and I’m really enjoying it,” he reported.
Living one day at a time, Quagliarella hinted at a potential career off the pitch. He revealed plans to undertake coaching and sports directing courses, suggesting that only time will reveal where his skills are best suited. He concluded by stating he will make decisions about his future at his own pace.
