Atalanta has formally announced the signing of defender Isak Hien from Hellas Verona. The official statement confirmed that the Swedish-born central defender, who stands at an imposing 191 cm and favours his right foot, will wear the number 4 shirt for the Bergamo club.
Born in Kista, Sweden in 1999 to Ghanaian and Burkina Faso parents, Hien arrives at Atalanta having spent the first half of the ongoing season at Hellas Verona. There, he clocked up 10 appearances – all as a starting player – in Serie A.
Hien carried his form from last season, during which he played for Hellas Verona, making a total of 33 appearances in Serie A, including a triumphant tie-breaker survival match against Spezia.
Hien joined Hellas Verona in late August 2022. In the weeks preceding his move, he played six matches (scoring one goal) in the Conference League qualifications with Djurgardens. He had debuted in the Swedish top-tier league known as Allsvenskan in the 2021/22 season with Djurgardens, and garnered 21 appearances and 2 goals.
Hien began his footballing journey in Sweden’s youth system, specifically with Valasund. Here, he exhibited his talent in Ettan Norra and Superettan, the third and second divisions of Swedish football, respectively. Adding to his impressive portfolio, Hien has also made 8 appearances for the Swedish national team.
Atalanta wished their new signing a warm welcome, expressing hope for his “best satisfaction – personal and team – in a Nerazzurri shirt”.
