In his regular analysis for ‘Tuttosport’, former referee Gianpaolo Calvarese praised the performance of the match official, Maresca, during the game between Lazio and Inter Milan.
Reflecting on the game, Calvarese analysed the referee’s decisions. “In the first half, Inter appealed for a penalty following a handball by Gila. However, it was not a punishable offence. The defender did not intend to intercept a shot or cross. He just tried to control the ball with his legs, but failed and the ball rebounded onto his arm. But his arm’s position, broad as it may have been, was entirely in line with the dynamics of the movement”, Calvarese said in Tuttosport.
Calvarese continued to discuss another critical incident. “The decision to play on following Lazio’s appeals for a penalty for a handball by Acerbi was also correct”, he said.
The former referee commended the overall management of the game. He was quoted in Tuttosport as stating, “The disciplinary threshold adopted was high, even if the referee spared two yellow cards in the first half. The overall management was balanced and consistent.”
