There’s a renewed energy in the Lazio camp following their recent Coppa Italia victory against Roma, an event that has added a fresh spark to manager Maurizio Sarri’s squad as they gear up to face Lecce.
Speaking to Radiosei, Lazio’s sporting director, Angelo Fabiani, reflected on the excitement of the Roma victory, especially as it coincided with Lazio’s birthday. However, he expressed concern over an excessive focus on this win, not so much from the fans, but within their Formello training grounds.
Fabiani emphasised the need for concentration, stating they need to focus on the upcoming match against Lecce. He reminded that the season’s start had shown no opposition can be underestimated. Despite Lazio’s current streak of three wins, Fabiani asserted this achievement was only a stepping stone towards their main target – a return to European competition.
Moreover, he rebutted Massimo Mauro’s commentary on the penalty awarded to Lazio in the derby. “He said something silly,” Fabiani quoted. He stressed that commentators should remain impartial.
Appreciation was shown towards Esteve Mandas for proving his worth in such an important match. “For us, he is a prodigy,” Fabiani said of the young player. He further lauded Sarri for his decision to field Mandas in a significant game, adding that the player had indeed repaid the manager’s trust.
