Juventus has secured a win against Salernitana in the round of 16 of the Coppa Italia 2023/24. The match was a trending topic due to referee Ghersini’s judgements on various incidents.
In an incredibly momentous start to the match, Salernitana’s Ikwuemesi netted a goal at the 2-minute mark. This happened due to an alarming mistake by Gatti who handed the ball to the Salernitana player. Left unchallenged before Perin, Ikwuemesi took his shot successfully. Despite protests from the defender, the referee judged the goal as valid.
At the 18-minute mark, a penalty was initially awarded to Juventus. This came as a result of Gatti bounding down the right flank at the edge of the area and Sambia subsequently taking him down with a slide tackle which the referee interpreted as a foul. Nonetheless, the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) was called into play and rectified the situation by revoking the penalty, instead, a free kick was given.
The first yellow card of the match came out at the 40-minute mark. Salernitana’s player, Maggiore, was booked for pulling down Miretti.
