Juve-Roma 1-0: Bianconeri close 2023 with a win, Allegri two points behind Inter

Juventus closed their 2023 season with a victory, trailing the league leaders Inter by two points. Juventus’ 1-0 win against AS Roma was thanks to Adrien Rabiot’s second-half goal at the Allianz Stadium.

The match started with a great chance for Roma in the 4th minute when Bryan Cristante hit the post from a cross by Paulo Dybala for Romelu Lukaku. Juventus created several scoring opportunities with Adrien Rabiot, Dusan Vlahovic, and Marley Ake being the main threats.

Bryan Cristante came close early with a shot that hit the post after Dybala’s cross found Lukaku who failed to make proper contact with the ball. Juventus missed a chance in the 7th minute when Filip Kostic failed to control the ball in the penalty area following a cross from Angelo Gualtieri.

Vlahovic took several shots, but none found the target. Lukaku made his first attempt on goal in the 13th minute, but his shot sailed over the crossbar.

Juventus began the second half strong, keeping up the pressure. In the 47th minute, Juventus scored their lone goal of the match when Kostic won a contested ball and served Vlahovic, who fell, leaving his pass for Rabiot to finish.

Roma tried to respond with attempts from Leandro Paredes and Dybala, but none found the back of the net. There was a late scare for Juventus when an own goal from Federico Chiesa was disallowed for offside in the 88th minute.

Despite Roma’s attempts to equalise, Juventus managed to hold on to the lead till the final whistle. Adrien Rabiot was named man of the match.

Juventus lined up in a 3-5-2 formation with Wojciech Szczesny in goal, Gatti, Bremer, and Danilo at the back, Weah, McKennie, Locatelli, Rabiot, and Kostic in midfield, Vlahovic, and Yildiz leading the attack. Roma also adopted a 3-5-2 formation with Rui Patricio in goal, Mancini, Llorente, and Ndicka in defence, Kristensen, Cristante, Paredes, Bove, and Zalewski in the middle, and Dybala and Lukaku upfront.

The game was officiated by referee Sozza from Seregno. Paredes and Locatelli were cautioned in the 68th and 77th minutes respectively.
