Inter Milan goalkeeper, Yann Sommer, has shared his views on the promising start to his team’s season, both in Serie A and the Champions League. Speaking to Sport Bild, Sommer discussed his initial months with the Italian club.
Known for his time with Bayern Munich, Sommer called it a productive six-month period that ended in a championship win. He also expressed his gratitude towards Borussia Mönchengladbach who gave him an excellent opportunity when he was just starting out.
However, he admitted that he felt the urge to shift paths and openly communicated the same to the club. “I learned a lot during my time in Bavaria. It was a positive period that I would never want to forget,” Sommer told Sport Bild.
The Swiss international acknowledged that there were challenging times in the past, marked by certain changes within the club. He also accepted that he faced criticism along with the rest of the team. However, the impressive keeper emphasized the role defence plays in his training and analysis, indicating that the entire team shares his passion.
Simone Inzaghi, the head coach of Inter, also values a strong defence, according to Sommer. The outspoken goalie stressed upon the fact that there’s a lot to a goalkeeper’s role than setting records. The analysis mentioned herein and an intense focus on defence during their training reflect the dedication of the team to winning.
