Serie A teams were optimistic that the Growth Decree, providing economic support, could be extended for at least a couple of months. However, it is set to disappear from January 1st.
The clubs have expressed outrage at the decision, with Lazio’s president, Lotito, leading the outcry. The decision threatens to abruptly slow down Serie A’s transfer market. Deals such as Buchanan at Inter Milan or Guirassy at AC Milan may need to be re-evaluated and re-structured, complicating the proceedings.
Arguing the wider impacts, the Serie A League issued a statement which has been reported by Tuttosport. It warned that the move will “result in less competitiveness of the teams, thereby reducing revenues, fewer resources for the youth academies, lesser induced value and consequently less revenue for the treasury”.
