Girona Chasing Barcelona’s Youngster

Girona FC has shown interest in acquiring Mikayil Faye from FC Barcelona, according to reports from Santi Aouna. Deportivo Alavés is also reportedly in the mix.

Mikayil Faye made the switch from Croatian side NK Kustosija to FC Barcelona last summer, with the transfer fee coming in at around €1.5 million.

Despite not making his debut for the reigning Spanish champions’ first team yet, the 19-year-old’s performances have won him critical acclaim in the Spanish press.

Spanish media in Catalonia have voiced a belief that the Senegalese player could be the future of Xavi’s team.

However, while he is currently honing his skills with the reserve team, there are discussions about potential moves within LaLiga, as revealed by Santi Aouna.

According to Aouna, Deportivo Alavés and Girona FC are two options that have surfaced.

The former is reportedly interested in loaning the defender until the end of the season.

However, what Girona FC is offering is slightly more tantalising. Aouna claims that Girona FC is intent on acquiring the 19-year-old on an initial temporary transfer, with a view to making it a permanent deal.

The details of any potential transfer are not yet known. It is, however, confirmed that the Spanish champions are not considering letting go of their player and see him as part of their future plans.

This season, Faye has played a total of 16 matches with Barcelona’s reserve team.

His contract is valid until June 30, 2027.
