Europei, Gravina: “Only 2/3 stadiums missing, including Turkey…”

Gabriele Gravina, president of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC), has spoken about the assignment of the 2032 European Championships to Italy and Turkey. In an interview with Sky Sport, Gravina expressed his excitement about this historic milestone. He stated, “It is a historic turning point for us, we have pursued this goal for years. Since 1990, we have not had the opportunity to host such an important football tournament. 42 years is the right time to concentrate our efforts and once again demonstrate the great organizational and managerial capacity of our country.”

Gravina emphasized the significance of the joint bid, highlighting the shared passion for the sport in both countries. He said, “It is an ambitious challenge of a joint candidacy that finds its most significant motivation in sharing. First and foremost, the shared passion for a sport that represents much more than just a game in our two countries. And then, the sharing of traditions and different cultures, to bridge the physical distance with a friendship bond even stronger than those made of concrete.”

Regarding the stadiums, Gravina expressed confidence in the time frame given for planning and constructing the necessary infrastructure. He explained, “We have managed to secure an important period of time to gather ideas, design, and implement. The deadline is October 1, 2026, giving us three years to plan. We are not starting at a disadvantage in terms of stadiums. Three of them have already been positively considered, while 2 or 3 still need to be finalized. However, our commitment must extend beyond the selection of the 5 or 6 venues that will host the final phase. We should consider the 2032 edition as a great opportunity to develop, build, or revolutionize the concept of infrastructure in our country.”

Gravina also discussed the significance of the joint bid with Turkey, emphasizing the shared passion and their intention to bridge the physical distance between the two nations. He stated, “It is an ambitious challenge of a joint candidacy that finds its most significant motivation in sharing. First and foremost, the shared passion for a sport that represents much more than just a game in our two countries. And then, the sharing of traditions and different cultures, to bridge the physical distance with a friendship bond even stronger than those made of concrete.”

Gabriele Gravina’s remarks indicate the excitement and determination behind Italy and Turkey’s joint bid for the 2032 European Championships. The organizers aim to showcase their countries’ rich football culture, traditions, and organizational capabilities through this prestigious tournament.
