Echeverri Officially Transfers to Manchester City: A Sensational Move in Soccer World

Manchester City has pulled off a significant coup with the acquisition of young Argentine football sensation, Claudio Echeverri, from River Plate.

Claudio Echeverri, the new dynamo of Argentine football at only 18 years old, is now a Manchester City player. Echeverri will, however, remain at River Plate for one more year before transferring to England no sooner than 2028, according to the club’s announcement.

In a statement released by the club, they said: “Manchester City has completed the purchase of Argentine midfielder Claudio Echeverri from River Plate. The 18-year-old has signed a contract until June 2028 but will stay at River before transferring to the Etihad Stadium in January of the next year.”

Celebrating his 18th birthday merely on 2nd January, Echeverri has already made six appearances with the Buenos Aires giants. With the guidance of former City defender Martin Demichelis, now the coach at El Monumental, Echeverri debuted in June 2023 where he assisted in a 3-1 victory over Instituto Cordoba.

Echeverri captained the Argentina team in the U17 World Cup in November and December, netting a hat-trick in the quarter-finals’ 3-0 win against Brazil. Although their run was halted in the semi-finals by Germany sent through a penalty shootout, Echeverri earned the tournament’s bronze ball as the third highest scorer. In total, Echeverri has racked up 23 appearances and 13 goals with Argentina’s Under-17s and has also trained with the senior national team.

The club statement continued: “Echeverri follows in the footsteps of 2022 World Cup winner Julian Alvarez, who transferred to City from River in 2022 and becomes the latest in a long line of Argentinians to join the club. Everyone at Manchester City is looking forward to welcoming Claudio to the Club and we wish him good luck for the remainder of his time with River Club.”

It’s clear City are thrilled to secure this talented player and are eagerly anticipating what he’ll bring to the pitch in the near future.
