Calhanoglu denies leaving Milan for money, admits preference for Inter

In a recent interview with SportMediaset, Turkish midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu of Inter Milan has shared his thoughts on his departure from Milan, along with a surprising confession.

Calhanoglu has admitted that he rejected lucrative offers from Arabia to continue his stint with Italian football giants, Inter Milan. “Yes, it’s true, I’ve turned them down. I made the decision not to leave because I love Inter,” Calhanoglu commented during the interview.

He further thanked Piero Ausilio, the club’s sporting director, saying that Ausilio understands his viewpoint. When these offers arrived, he directed the club to make the decision, putting faith in their judgment.

The former Milan star also touched on the prevalent belief that his exit was driven by financial motives. He disagreed, noting that money isn’t the be-all and end-all. “Everyone thinks I left for an economic issue, but money isn’t always everything. For me, the most important thing is to feel important, and that’s what I feel here,” Calhanoglu further clarified.

There are criticisms from the Rossoneri fans who believe Calhanoglu let them down, particularly following losing out on the Scudetto in 2022. However, he responded to this in a sanguine manner. “I wish them the best, but with patience, it will be seen,” Calhanoglu concluded, indicating that only time will reveal the outcome of his decisions.
