Bologna triumphs over Roma 2-0: A Champion-like performance seals head-to-head victory

In the 16th round of Serie A 2023/2024, Bologna faced off against Roma at the Dall’Ara, with Bologna coming out on top with a 2-0 victory.

The match kicked off with Bologna hitting the ground running. Despite few scoring opportunities in the early stages, Bologna managed to take the lead in the 37th minute when Ndoye slipped the ball to Moro who neatly slotted it home.

As the first half drew to a close, Bologna continued to press, with Zirkzee attempting a shot on goal only for it to sail off target.

As the second half got underway, Bologna furthered their lead. A cross from Ferguson found its way into the net off an unfortunate deflection by Kristensen, making it 2-0 for Bologna in the 49th minute.

Despite consistent efforts from Roma and a clear chance for Belotti, who fired his shot straight at the goalkeeper Ravaglia, Bologna held their ground. Further drama ensued when Lucumì was initially sent off for a foul on Azmoun, but a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review deemed it offside and reversed the decision.

Bologna’s Ndoye was declared the best player on the pitch.

Bologna’s 2-0 victory marked an impressive performance, with goals from Moro and Kristensen’s own goal. Bologna’s starting lineup featured Ravaglia, Posch, Beukema, Calafiori, Kristiansen, Freuler, Moro, Ndoye, Ferguson, Saelemaekers, and Zirkzee, under the management of Thiago Motta.

Roma, coached by Mourinho, started Rui Patricio, Mancini, LIorente, Ndicka, Kristensen, Cristante, Paredes, Pellegrini, Spinazzola, El Shaarawy, and Belotti.

This victory secures Bologna’s position as a strong contender for the Champions League spots.
