Bologna FC officially announced the signing of striker Santiago Castro on their website. The club stated, “Bologna FC 1909 is pleased to confirm the permanent signing of striker Santiago Castro from CA Velez Sarsfield.”
The budding Argentine forward will be the 15th of his nation to represent the club. Born in 2004, Castro is a versatile right-footed attacker who excels in both offensive and defensive phases. Also, he is currently representing Argentina’s U23 team in the Olympic qualification tournament.
The striker, known for his powerful shooting, remarkable goal sense, and ability to link up play, made his debut for Velez Sarsfield aged just 16. He continued to impress with his agility, explosiveness, and timing, and even featured in the Copa Libertadores in 2022.
The 2023 season proved to be a turning point for Castro. Despite tumultuous times at El Fortín, which saw two manager changes, Castro emerged as a beacon of hope, leading the team to safety and becoming the top goal scorer in the national cup competition with six decisive goals.
The club boasted of his aerial ability, determination, and superb holdup play, and emphasised his talent for attacking the penalty area while also contributing to the width and depth of the squad. Whether as the main striker or an attacking partner, Castro can also perform as a wide forward, consistently battling and contesting for balls.
In one of their statements, Bologna FC lauded their new signing saying, “As one of the brightest emerging talents in Argentine football, he comes to Bologna after 64 appearances and nine goals for Velez.”
Castro has certainly made a name for himself in his home country, and will no doubt look forward to proving his worth on the Italian stage with Bologna.
