Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva has hinted at a potential return to Benfica in the future, during a recent chat with Portuguese newspaper, A Bola.
Expressing his fondness for the Portuguese club, Silva stated, “Benfica? I have never hidden the fact that I would like to return one day, we will see over time if it will be possible.”
Expanding on his future plans, Silva indicated that it would be challenging for Benfica to afford his transfer, given his current economic agreement with City. “I have to respect my contract with Manchester,” he explained. “Economically, Benfica I don’t think has the availability to buy me.”
The Portuguese international, however, sparked more speculation by suggesting that a homecoming could happen when his contract with Man City expires in 2026. “I think I will return to Portugal only at the end of my contract in 2026”, he added.
Silva’s statement is suggestive of his strong ties with his hometown club Benfica, stirring up anticipation about his possible return in the future. However, it is clear that much depends on the economic abilities of the clubs involved as well as the course of Silva’s career with Manchester City.
