In an unexpected twist in this winter’s football transfer market, there is rumour and speculation about Karim Benzema’s potential desire to return to European football with Inter Milan, as suggested by Sebastian Frey, the former goalkeeper of Inter.
Frey intrigued fans and pundits alike with his to-the-point assertions in a recent interview with TV Play. “Benzema is falling out with Saudi Arabia and may be on the market as early as January,” he stated.
Frey further noted that the Inter Chief Executive, Beppe Marotta, hasn’t confirmed nor denied the possibility of bringing the French striker to the Nerazzurri. This might even suggest a hint of opportunity for Benzema’s inclusion in the struggling Inter side, especially amid rumours that Alexis Sanchez may be moving away from the club.
“There are whispers of Marotta who doesn’t say yes to his arrival, but also doesn’t deny it,” Frey’s comments read. “The priority will be Sanchez’s exit, if he moves out from Inter, it could pave way for a possibility.”
As it stands, these are mere speculations and the ball is in Inter’s court. Whether they’re willing to capitalise on Benzema’s alleged unrest in Saudi Arabia or not, is a question that only time can answer.
