Barcelona eyeing Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso as replacement for Xavi at season end
Barcelona is reportedly setting its sights on Xabi Alonso, the current Bayer Leverkusen coach, to replace Xavi after the conclusion of the 2024/2025 season, according to Spanish sports newspaper, Mundo Deportivo.
The Blaugrana club has been left significantly impressed by the results Alonso has secured with Bayer Leverkusen, positioning him as the leading candidate for the role.
However, Alonso’s resounding success has not gone unnoticed elsewhere. Liverpool are also reportedly interested in the former midfielder as a potential replacement for Jurgen Klopp.
In the event that a deal with Alonso does not materialise, Barcelona is considering alternative options such as the return of Luis Enrique, or possibly moving for Mikel Arteta and Roberto De Zerbi.
The speculation continues as we await further announcements from Barcelona concerning their strategic appointment for the upcoming season.
