Ankaragucu faces 5 closed-door matches in Turkey following referee assault

The Turkish football club Ankaragucu has been handed down a sanction following an assault on referee Halil Umut Meler by club president Faruk Koca. The Turkish Football Federation imposed penalties last night, which include five matches to be played behind closed doors and a fine of €60,000.

Meanwhile, Koca and two individuals also involved in the assault of the referee are under custodial arrest, as reported by RMC Sport. The referee, Halil Umut Meler, is still in the hospital following the incident. He suffered a head trauma and will remain under observation until next Wednesday.
