The match-up between Juventus and Roma also holds a special significance as it places two of the most coveted football managers, Allegri and Mourinho, head-to-head. Both these managers were sought after by Saudi Arabia in the summer.
During the summer transfer market, both had the opportunity to step into the Saudi Pro League: Juventus’ current manager Allegri reportedly turned down a three-year deal worth 100 million euros, while Mourinho, currently at Roma, dismissed a two-year contract from Al Ahli, valued at 120 million euros.
According to Tuttosport, both managers declined the offers as they wanted to remain committed to their respective club projects. It appears their loyalties lie with continuing the development of Juventus and Roma respectively, instead of opting for a financially lucrative move to Saudi Arabia.
