One year has passed since the death of Sinisa Mihajlovic, the former coach of Bologna. The anniversary of his passing is marked with an emotional tribute from his son, Dusan Mihajlovic, in La Gazzetta dello Sport.
According to Dusan, his father was more than just a parent to him. He was perceived as a superhero and an idol. “For me, it was not just a dad, he was a superhero, an idol. He was everything. I looked at him with love and admiration. It’s been a horrible year, I can’t find another expression. Still, you try to move forward, think about what he would have said or done. We were already closely knit as a family, but now we are even more so. Then there is mum who is protective of all of us. Being immediately compared to him is not a burden, it’s an honour. And when they tell me that I remind them of him, that I make his same gestures, it fills my heart. It applies to all of us children. It’s beautiful to hear his voice again, to see the images. But it also brings up emotions,” Dusan said as reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport.
He further spoke about the upcoming Bologna-Roma game, in which he, his mother and sibling, Viktorija, will be attending. The fans of Lazio are reportedly preparing a tribute for the late Sinisa Mihajlovic and Dusan has expressed his gratitude for this. He also shared a humorous anecdote about how, back in 2019, upon learning that his father was contacted by Roma, he had joked with him saying, “I told him, dad, are you crazy? If you go to Roma, I can’t go outside anymore!” To which his father had jokingly responded that it would be better, as Dusan would stay home and stay out of trouble more often.
Lastly, Dusan revealed that the memory of his father remains very much alive in his life. From posters on the walls to items on his bedside table, reminders of his late father surround him. He also made a heartfelt declaration, promising that if he ever has a son in the future, he will name him Sinisa, as a tribute to his late father.
