Bournemouth FC has announced that midfielder Hamed Traoré has contracted malaria, causing him to miss the Africa Cup of Nations.
In a statement, AFC Bournemouth Head Coach, Andoni Iraola said, “Hamed Traoré will be out for ‘some time’ after being hospitalized with malaria. The Ivorian footballer will not participate in the Africa Cup of Nations due to his health condition and will continue to undergo further medical tests. Traoré has been sent home in order to recover from the illness”.
The club has assured fans and stakeholders that the former Sassuolo player’s condition is being closely monitored and that appropriate steps are being taken for his expedient recovery. No further details have been provided at this time.
