Rouven Schroder, Sport Director of RB Leipzig, has discussed the club’s recent acquisition of midfielder Eljif Elmas from Napoli. The decision was discussed in an official club interview.
“With the acquisition of Eljif Elmas, we have managed to fill a significant gap in our attack following the departure of Emil Forsberg,” Schroder stated on Leipzig’s official channel. He revealed that the club has been monitoring Elmas for some time, viewing him as an interesting prospect.
According to Schroder, Elmas perfectly fits into the team’s overall personality, further noting how Elmas’ technical skills are notable. “Eljif is agile, loves to run and dribble, and he can score,” Schroder said. “He can play centrally, but he’s equally comfortable on either flank.”
Schroder highlighted Elmas’ unique playing style as a bonus for Leipzig. “With his skills, he’ll bring something different to our game because he’s very good at beating his man, thanks to his acceleration and physicality. He always tries to push the ball forward.”
Despite being only 24 years old, Elmas has played in Italy and Turkey and has extensive international experience with North Macedonia, along with two significant trophy wins under his belt. “That’s why we’re so happy to have secured his services,” Schroder explained. He pointed out that the focus is now ensuring that Elmas integrates quickly within the team during the brief winter break.
