Roma FC is gearing up for another shake-up in the transfer market, but first, there is a need for some clear-out within the squad. In recent weeks, Roma’s manager, José Mourinho, has been vocal about his intentions.
Mourinho had expressed his preference to work with young talents who have potential rather than players who have nothing more to offer. This statement was made following Roma’s defeat in Bologna. He additionally reflected on his previous managerial style at Chelsea, remarking that such an approach would not work with his current squad. He went on to highlight a certain comfort-oriented mentality within the team.
The immediate priority, therefore, is to offload the unproductive members of the squad in order to reinvest in the transfer market.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, many players are in the departure pipeline. Renato Sanches, considered to be the biggest disappointment of the most recent transfer window, is among those destined for the exit. Alongside him is Aouar, whom Mourinho has notably been critical of, stating, “When the intensity of the match increases, he (Aouar) struggles.” The list also includes Kristensen, who will not be given a buy-back option.
For player release, the focus is on Smalling, who has been a constant concern due to his injury. Accompanying him will be Celik, who has failed to impress, and Belotti. Regarding contract renewals, Rui Patricio and Spinazzola’s contracts are near expiry, but neither will be renewed.
