Inter, Inzaghi: We didn’t deserve to exit; Lautaro’s injury not serious, we hope

Simone Inzaghi, the head coach of Inter Milan, has expressed his disappointment following the team’s loss to Bologna in extratime in the Coppa Italia. In his post-match comments to Sportmediaset, Inzaghi conveyed his mixed emotions about the match performance.

“Of course, we’re not happy,” lamented Inzaghi. “It’s disappointing that after two years we give up the title. We should’ve won after leading the game the way we did, but that’s football. I can fault the last 15 minutes because for the rest of the game, we played really well in front of our fans, but Bologna moved on.”

Inzaghi also addressed the condition of Lautaro Martinez, saying, “There’s a fatigue issue that we need to assess. We’re hopeful that it’s nothing serious. The doctors seemed calm but given we have another game in 72 hours, we need to evaluate the situation.”

As for the performance of Marko Arnautovic, Inzaghi remarked, “I was pleased. He did what he needed to do and what we asked of him. He wasn’t lucky in the goal area but he put in a solid performance. From a striker, we expect a goal but he did everything else right.”

Discussing the impact of his midfielders, Inzaghi commented, “With Ndoye struggling, many players would have been in difficulty. Stefano Sensi came on well, did what he was supposed to do. Once the ball was attacked, we shouldn’t have let Zirkzee pass, then 90% of the players would have arrived late.”

Inzaghi also had praise for opposition striker, Zirkzee, saying, “Great player, who continues to perform. He was brilliant on both the first and the second goal, an excellent centre-forward showing great potential”.
