Lecce-Bologna incident: Falcone hooks Calafiori

Another event that sparked debate in the Serie A last weekend was the penalty awarded in the Lecce against Bologna match due to a contact between Falcone and Calafiori.

The controversial incident was reviewed on Dazn’s programme Open Var, with referee expert Trefoloni. The audio between the video assistant referee (VAR) and the on-field referee Doveri was replayed. Reportedly, words to the effect of “he hooks him, for me it’s a penalty” were aired.

Following the on-field review, the match official made the decision to award the penalty and caution Bologna’s defender.
