Inter-Real Sociedad 0-0: Nerazzurri secure second place finish

The last group match of the Champions League 2023/2024 saw Inter Milan go head-to-head with Real Sociedad at San Siro. The face-off ended in a no-score draw with neither side able to break the deadlock.

The game kicked off with Inter immediately on the attack. Calhanoglu’s right foot shot was stifled by Real Sociedad’s defense in the second minute of the game.

The first half saw numerous attempts by both teams to seize the lead, with action on the pitch reaching fever pitch by half time. Notable attempts to score were made by Alexis Sanchez and Roma’s former player, who couldn’t finish a spectacular assist Sanchez provided past the Sociedad’s defence.

The second half commenced with a colossal opportunity missed by Inter, as Thuram struck high off an intercepted short goalie kick. The game proceeded with near misses and blocked attempts, with a penalty against Real Sociedad dismissed after referee consultation with the VAR leading to Kubo’s controversial booking.

The last few minutes witnessed a flurry of attempts from Inter to change the scoreline with key opportunities falling into the hands of Lautaro Martinez; unfortunately, the attempts didn’t result in a goal.

Summarising the team line-ups; Inter Milan, managed by Simone Inzaghi played a 3-5-2 formation with Sommer as the goalkeeper with Darmian, Acerbi, Carlos Augusto as the defensive line-up. The attacking line-up comprised of the likes of Cuadrado, Frattesi, Calhanoglu, Mkhitaryan, Dimarco, Sanchez, and Thuram.

Real Sociedad managed by Imanol Alguacil used a 4-4-2 formation selecting Remiro as the goal keeper. The defensive line-up featured Traoré, Zubeldia, Le Normand, Munoz, and their forwards were Zakharyan, Merino, Zubimendi, Oyarzabal, Sadiq, and Kubo.

As the match ended 0-0, both teams collected a single point each. The teams will now focus on preparing for their future fixtures in the league.
