In the 15th round of the Eredivisie Dutch football league, the teams holding the top two positions both managed to secure 3 points. However, their paths to this achievement were quite different.
PSV had a relatively easier time, maintaining their winning streak by overpowering Heerenveen with a 2-0 victory, achieving one goal in each half. Their goals came from Til and then Pepi, contributing to the PSV’s unassailable form.
On the other hand, Feyenoord had a tougher fight on their hands. To claim victory over the bottom-placed team, Volendam, they had to wait until the injury time when Gimenez and Paixao scored, setting the final score at 3-1.
Despite the victory and Gimenez scoring his 18th goal, Feyenoord’s coach Arne Slot voiced some critical remarks. He was quoted saying in the post-match press conference: “If I may be critical, I think he should do much more to keep the ball. Considering the number of corner kicks we take, he should be more aggressive. In short, he can perform better…”.
While Slot left Gimenez on the field, it inevitably raises questions about the striker’s performances and the team’s dynamics in front of tougher challenges. The team’s response in future matches will indeed make for interesting viewing.
