Zbigniew ‘Zibi’ Boniek, former Juventus and Roma player, has given his views on how both teams are fairing in this Serie A season. His comments were made at a conference at UniCamillus.
On AS Roma, Boniek said, “When we speak about results, the ‘Giallorossi’ are in the running for all three goals. However, the downside is that the gameplay isn’t there, this team relies on the skills of its players. Perhaps, people were expecting a bit more in terms of game management”.
While he acknowledges the meaning of results, he expresses a shared frustration with fans, given the calibre of players in Roma’s rosters. Managing the three competitions will not be an easy task for Roma, coupled with the uncertainty concerning Mourinho’s tenure. He added, “As for Mourinho’s future? We will have to see how the team is doing in March, it’s not my decision to make.”
In reference to Juventus, Boniek said, “For now, Juventus is getting results, but it’s the same narrative with Roma. With Napoli, the end could have been different, but the ‘Bianconeri’ are ruthless and always lingering, if you have them behind you, you must be very careful.”
He also suggested that Inter Milan may have an edge in terms of squad depth and structure. When asked about Allegri or Inzaghi, Boniek responded, “Coaches don’t play, they don’t win the games.”
Lastly, on the re-election of Alexander Ceferin as UEFA President, Boniek said, “I don’t know, it’s not an issue that concerns me anymore, but I must say he is doing a good job, these are not easy times for football. COVID-19 has left us with many problems.”
