Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has offered his views ahead of the Champions League last-16 draw. Speaking to Sky Sports, the Argentine coach touched on a variety of subjects.
Simeone expressed satisfaction with the performance of Spanish teams in the competition. He said, “It hasn’t happened for a couple of years. Real Sociedad is a great team, Barcelona and Real Madrid are always strong, and this season, we took a step forward”, reflecting on the four Spanish teams qualifying for the round of 16.
Simeone was also asked about the prospect of facing Napoli in the next round. He acknowledged, “Giovanni wants it, he’s playing a little less now. He’s eager and would like to play. Napoli has had a great season and is now recovering with their new manager. There are also strong teams like Inter Milan, PSG, and others because they have reached the last 16.”
Simeone’s comments articulate his respect for the other teams in the competition, and his understanding of the challenges equipped at this level.
