The comparison between the current Atalanta and the one from 2017-2018 in regards to the Europa League. Another record rewritten.
“When Atalanta rewrites its history, we always tend to bring out numbers, statistics, and even a suitcase full of memories,” says Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini.
The group stages were passed without problems with two games in advance, but can this team be defined as superior to the last Dea that passed the Europa League group stages? That Atalanta from 2017-2018 that, with a group as young as it was hungry, managed to accomplish a great feat by beating Lyon, Apollon, and Everton (different opponents from today’s).
“Statistically speaking, here are the numbers compared after 4 Europa League matches,” continues Gasperini.
“In 2017-2018: 8 points; 2 wins and 2 draws with 8 goals scored and 3 conceded (14 at the end of the group stage)
In 2023-2024: 10 points; 3 wins, 1 draw with 7 goals scored and 3 conceded.”
Atalanta continues to impress in the Europa League, with their current campaign showing promise of potentially surpassing their previous success in 2017-2018.
