International football referee, Halil Umut Meler, was reportedly assaulted by Ankaragucu President, Faruk Koca, following a 1-1 draw with Rizespor.
The dispute followed a 95th minute red card issued to Tupcu. This decision infuriated the Ankaragucu club boss, leading to an alleged violent confrontation after the final whistle. It’s reported that Meler was physically attacked, receiving a punch to the face from Koca, according to sources on the ground in Turkey. Further allegations suggest Koca, alongside several members of the Ankaragucu bench, followed up with a series of vicious kicks towards the referee.
Reports indicate that Meler has since been hospitalised. Some Turkish media outlets are speculating that the referee is now considering retiring from football as a result.
