Following Salernitana’s defeat against Bologna, head coach Filippo Inzaghi has spoken out about the team’s shortcomings in the match during an interview with DAZN.
Inzaghi admitted that his team’s approach to the game was not their best. He said, “We conceded two goals in a way that simply shouldn’t have happened. You can’t afford to give away goals like that.” He pointed out that there was no sense in self-pity, acknowledging instead that Bologna proved to be the superior team.
After making a tactical switch thirty minutes into the game, Inzaghi suggested he potentially could have made further changes, but he decided to stick with his decision, despite the individual errors made. He said, “Lovato made a mistake, as did others. I didn’t want to substitute him, but psychologically, he seemed more fragile after the error. However, we’re still counting on him. We could have drawn the game. I believe that with hard work, we can recover.”
Inzaghi expressed disappointment for the fans and the club’s president and reaffirmed his belief that the team could bounce back.
Speaking about teammate Simy, he praised him for good training and urged others to emulate his determination. “Simy has been training well. Everyone should have his drive, he will give us a great boost. We still have many games left to play, we’re in the first half of the season, and there’s still an opportunity to make a comeback,” said Inzaghi, maintaining a sense of optimism for the remainder of the season.
