Atalanta clinched a thrilling victory over Milan with a 3-2 scoreline in a tension-filled Serie A match for the 2023/24 season at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo.
The match featured a dramatic finish with Muriel scoring the decisive third goal for Atalanta in the 94th minute, with an assist from Miranchuk. This came after a red card expulsion for Calabria in the 93rd minute following a foul on Miranchuk.
Just before Muriel’s game-winning goal, Atalanta made a substitution, bringing in Holm for Ruggeri in the 95th minute. Throughout the game, there were major repositionings with Atalanta substituting Adopo for Pasalic in the 86th minute, later bringing in Muriel and Miranchuk for Lookman and De Ketelaere in the 81st minute.
Earlier on, Milan had levelled the score at 2-2 thanks to a goal by Jovic, which had been set up by Pulisic from the left wing.
The game was not without controversy, with Atalanta expressing dissatisfaction over a goal by Giroud of Milan, who earlier scored a header following a corner kick in the 47th minute. There were claims of an unsanctioned foul on Lookman preceding the goal.
Atalanta initially took the lead in the 37th minute via Lookman’s goal, assisted by Koopmeiners. Lookman managed to shake off two opponents to get his shot off, which, despite a deflection by Milan’s Tomori, ended up in the net.
For Milan, substitutions also played a role in their late-game dynamics, with Jovic brought in for Loftus Cheek in the 71st minute and Bennacer replacing Chukwueze in the 59th minute.
It was a match of high intensity and adjustments from both teams, with several goals and a climactic finale that kept fans on edge until the very last minute.
